Congratulations, Lady Panthers
I recently stumbled across something I feared no longer existed. In my recent visits to school functions there is something missing, a sense of "PRIDE". Back in the day {HA! HA!}
you could feel it in the air at the football stadium as soon as you entered. We were there to represent and had no intention taking a loss without a fight. Proud of who we were, where we were from and always making our presence known. Clearly it had its drama and excitement as well as its disappointments. This was the code to live by.
So are we as parents to blame. Do we no longer attempt to instill this quality in our children.
Is this virtual world that has swallowed our children stolen a sense of the reality from us. I believe that supporting and encouraging your children is vital to their development, and the adults they will become.
I took an adventure and followed this softball team on their journey to the state playoffs. I covered their area tournament hosted by EXCEL, the first here in their new DEN. They finished 2nd losing only to Mobile Christian. This won them a ticket to the regional playoffs in Gulf Shores. After a very long hot day they had earned their place at the state playoffs held in Montgomery. They took 5th place in state playing against varsity teams loaded with juniors and seniors and holding their own. They are a young team consisting of freshmen with 2 sophomores and 1 senior. Softball is truly a game of individuals coming together as a team. No one player makes or breaks the team, it takes them all to play the game. The discipline and hard work has paid off this year as they have made their mark in this sport. They are exciting to watch and not only do they know the game and play it well but they know each other, anticipating the others next step. They are quite comical in the way they play and the more fun they have the better they play. When they take the field they take it with an enthusiasm and pride that bleeds strait through to those of us who are there for support. The stands come alive and you can feel the anticipation in the air. I feel these girls should be commended for there accomplishments. They will truly be a team to watch in the future.
